Île d'Orléans is home to some sixty artists and craftsmen, whose production covers the creative spectrum of artistic endeavour. From popular to speculative, from figurative to abstract, from classical to contaporary, pictoral and sculptural arts go hand in hand with leading-edge technology and embody a great variety of materials. While on the one hand, pure creative energy can only explain the apparent disorder of a burst of colours, on the other, a logical arrangement of shapes and hues quietly seeks to reproduce real life.
Traditional crafts are also in the foreground, yet they have been transformed into a new art craft form, wherein the smallest piece of cloth, metal, wood, leather, reed or mass of clay serves in a way that is characteristic of the working life of the island.
The island plays an important role in the life of the artists. It is a model of inpiration, a source of material and a refuge for the creative soul.
