Île d'Orléans is known as an exceptional place that safeguards and preserves it heritage. The inhabitants of the Island are conscious of the national dimension of the rich heritage and history that they have inherited. They are sensitive of the mythical role, of the symbolic responsibility that the Island continues to evoke to not only their lives but to all Quebecers. They have decided to conserve the living past and have made valuable the caracteristics that are used today in the <<cradle>> of French America.
The work may be long winded, the partners multiple, the steps interrupted, but the results are there for all to see. Maritime and natural heritage, political and territorial, social and family oriented, artistic and cultural, all the chain of history, all of human activity is represented. The interpretive activities offered at the five historic sites of the Island are complete by themselves but as a group, they enrich even more the Historic Network of Île d'Orléans; an integrated approach that makes the patrimonial history of the Island a wealth of opportunity by its teamwork.
