« The Île d'Orléans historic district has eight churches and a chapel classified historic monuments. Those monuments were all built by renowned architects or contain work by well-known artists and craftsmen. » The text show the unique and major elements of the architectural, artistic and cultural treasures of each of the six municipalities of the island. They interpret what the visitor can see while gorgeous unpublished photos supports the words.
This brochure is unique because of is didactic aspect especially in the specialized information complements. The uninitiated will find tolls to understand the specific vocabulary of the religious patrimony when the initiated will extend for sure their knowledge. The brochure include: a timeline, typical church plans explained, visual glossary who detail church architecture and interior decor, a terminological glossary and a bibliography of accessible literature. The inside covert is a map of the island with the major points of interest in religious patrimony: eight churches, six cemeteries, six procession chapels, five calvaries, nineteen roadside crosses and an oratory.
Printed in 10 000 copies in French and in 5 000 in English, the brochure The Religious Patrimony of Île d'Orléans will be free distributed on demand in the churches of Ile d'Orléans, at the Tourist Information Centre of Île d'Orléans and in the Tourist Information Bureaux of Québec City Tourism.
